Old Situation @ Bedok South

We have moved to Commonwealth and this situation no longer applies. However, for historical purposes, we are keeping this page.

The Big Mess - Wonder why we did not get evicted earlier

This was the situation in Dovlyn's home before the performance. Massive construction work occurred frequently. Dovlyn's mother was highly disturbed to see her apartment turned into a warehouse cum construction yard.

It was only a matter of time before either this entire mess or her mother disappears from her home.

Portable Studio Version 1.0 under construction, consisting of "third world country" parts mostly supplied or purchased with loans from Eric. Eric built it mostly by himself.

Portable Studio 2.0 ready for action. Featuring front, rear and wireless camera, video monitor, DVR to record videos, mic amplifier, portable power supply and general storage compartments. It works.
Specially modified dolly for under $80 including high quality headphone. Saves us a few thousand dollars but has an annoying habit of coming apart during use.
Stack of florescent tubes painstaking linked together by Eric. The lights are no good but we have no budget for proper spotlights. Kindly donated by Dovlyn's Daddy who also sponsored another $100.

Eric hard at work building the Portable Studio. Dismantling the old studio took a day, but building a new one took 2.5 weeks.
Useless waste from the last production - a lot of wood and styrofoam got thrown away.
Enough wires to strangle a technician - this makes a perfect maze for the technically challenged to unravel.

What happened

During the "Dreaming for 1000 years" performance, Dovlyn managed to make an emotional connection with her parents. Her mother was initially very upset that she made public her family problems, but now she has grown more tolerant and open. Her father, already supportive of her, has grown even closer to her.

Eric wanted to take charge and start an advertising agency to bring in money to support our work, as everything that occurred so far is money losing. He set a short deadline and wanted to team to work hard.

However, Dovlyn has other plans on her mind. She was upset with the poor quality of the previous performance. Against Eric's advice, she plans for a repeat performance and begs the team to help her. Eric relents this time, but notes the team will suffer many problems as a result of the delay and that it is not worthwhile to perform for a very small audience.

The second performance occured very well, mostly. Of course, there was quite a number of glitches from the protagonists, and also that the Portable Studio's trolley broke apart en route to a rehearsal. However, it worked well enough for Dovlyn to be satisfied.

The children were even more delighted and wanted very much to perform again.

Our team could not find an apartment for many weeks. But on 8 March 06, a real estate agent found a flat for us. It has what we wanted (including relatively low rent) but we can only stay for 3 months. Within 2 days, we raised the neccessary funds to rent the flat. We moved in on the 15th, and got almost everything running by the end of the week.

Eric's mother expected to see him earn a salary of at least $1200 per month by the end of March or find a "decent" job as earlier promised. Eric moved out to the new flat before the deadline. His mother relented and gave him an extension of 3 more months.

Goodbye Bedok South. Twinklekids now has a new beginning.
